Modeling day–ahead electricity prices
Introducing a production–based approach, we take into account different attitudes and liabilities of market participants to discuss the equilibrium day–ahead prices on electricity. Conditions ensuring the existence of the equilibrium are given and price distribution is considered. We include a discussion of reasons for high price volatility.
متن کاملThe dynamics of hourly electricity prices ⋆
The dynamics of hourly electricity prices in day-ahead markets is an important element of competitive power markets that were only established in the last decade. In electricity markets, the market microstructure does not allow for continuous trading, since operators require advance notice in order to verify that the schedule is feasible and lies within transmission constraints. Instead agents ...
متن کاملForecasting day-ahead electricity prices in Europe: the importance of considering market integration
Motivated by the increasing integration among electricity markets, in this paper we propose three different methods to incorporate market integration in electricity price forecasting and to improve the predictive performance. First, we propose a deep neural network that considers features from connected markets to improve the predictive accuracy in a local market. To measure the importance of t...
متن کاملFurther Advances in Forecasting Day-Ahead Electricity Prices Using Time Series Models
Forecasting prices in electricity markets is critical for consumers and producers in planning their operations and managing their price risk. We utilize the generalized autoregressive conditionally heteroskedastic (GARCH) method to forecast the electricity prices in two regions of New York: New York City and Central New York State. We contrast the one-day forecasts of the GARCH against techniqu...
متن کاملStrict linear prices in non-convex European day-ahead electricity markets
The European power grid can be divided into several market areas where the price of electricity is determined in a day-ahead auction. Market participants can provide continuous hourly bid curves and combinatorial bids with associated quantities given the prices. The goal of our auction is to maximize the economic surplus of all participants subject to quantity constraints and price constraints....
